Quotes from last year's charity runners

Here are some personal accounts and race day experiences from past Flora London Marathon participants who ran for charities.

‘Special thanks to Anthony Nolan supporters, who cheered extra loud and stood for hours in the drizzle and rain to help us home.’
L Goldsack, Dorset

‘I ran the 2006 race for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) because I had been deeply touched by cancer in 2005. Several friends were battling cancer throughout 2005 and I wanted to raise money to make sure that people didn’t experience this terrible disease. As (WCRF UK) researches ways to prevent cancer via healthy diets and lifestyles, weight management and physical activity, I wanted to raise as much money as possible.

I kept training and running through the winter months knowing that I was doing everything for my close friends and knowing that I was raising money for a worthwhile cause. I ran the marathon in 5hrs 30mins and thought of my friends every step of the way. Thank you to (WCRF UK) for all your support and contact. The wonderful news is that both my friends who were being treated for breast cancer are in the clear. For me that makes every step I took in training and on the day itself worth it.

I raised £4,000 for (WCRF UK)!’

’Running the Flora London Marathon was possibly the most rewarding experience of my life, and the way the RNID Events team treated us runners enhanced the day so much. The support throughout the run was incredible - at every point I begun to feel myself lagging, there they were, a troup of RNID supporters, shouting support, waving, and smiling. This was exactly what was needed to make me pick my feet up again and keep going. To be greeted at the end as we were, with massages and showers (not to mention tea and lots of biscuits!) rounded it off in the best possible way. With the RNID Events team behind me, I think I could achieve anything!’
